Evertons Dismal Start To Season Suffers Latest Calamity After Carabao Cup Shoot Out Defeat

Everton's Dismal Start to Season Continues with Carabao Cup Calamity

Toffees Suffer Carabao Cup Shoot-Out Defeat

Everton's nightmare start to the season worsened on Tuesday night as they crashed out of the Carabao Cup in a penalty shootout defeat to League One side Fleetwood Town. The match, played at Fleetwood's Highbury Stadium, saw the Toffees dominate possession but fail to create clear-cut chances. In contrast, Fleetwood, who sit 57 places below Everton in the English football pyramid, were more clinical in front of goal. The game went to a penalty shootout after extra-time, and it was Fleetwood who held their nerve to win 5-4. Anthony Gordon missed the decisive penalty for Everton, sending the ball over the bar.

The defeat added to Everton's mounting misery this season. Frank Lampard's side have now lost six of their first eight games in all competitions, including their opening three Premier League matches.

It is the first time in the club's history that they have lost their first three top-flight games since 1951. Everton are now rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, and the pressure is growing on manager Frank Lampard.

Lampard, who replaced Rafael Benitez in January, has been unable to turn things around at Goodison Park. The former Chelsea boss has overseen just four wins in his 16 games in charge.

Everton's next match is a Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday. The Toffees will be hoping to avoid a third successive defeat in the Merseyside derby.
