The match, played at Fleetwood's Highbury Stadium, saw the Toffees dominate possession but fail to create clear-cut chances. In contrast, Fleetwood, who sit 57 places below Everton in the English football pyramid, were more clinical in front of goal. The defeat added to Everton's mounting misery this season. Frank Lampard's side have now lost six of their first eight games in all competitions, including their opening three Premier League matches.
